User Interface Version 8 -- Step by Step
The Prepare Data form shown
here illustrates design principles used in Version 8:
- Each
form title describes a major step like
Prepare Data.
- Each
form is closed by clicking on the
X close icon in the upper-right
corner.
- Each
form shows you-are-here information in the upper-left about the current
project, current main step, and current sub-step like
Manage Project CrashTest80 >
Prepare Data Crash > Review Standard.
- Each
form shows brief instructions relevant to the current sub-step like
Review
standard data values.
- Each
form has two command buttons in the upper-right: a
Stop button (stop working
with CODES2000 or LinkSolv) and
Help
button (display a help page for the current dialog). A few forms have
another command button for starting a series of steps can be done
automatically. Here, all five Data Preparation sub-steps for Crash can be
repeated by clicking once on
Auto Run.
- All
command buttons show control tips describing their uses. All column titles
show control tips describing their contents.
- With
Version 7, viewing a frequency table required selecting a field name from
a drop-down list. Now, any frequency table can be viewed by clicking on
the View
icon on the left of the field name.
- With
Version 7, viewing field information (Info) required clicking on a command
button to display a list of field names and their information content.
Now, the information is available without additional effort.
- With
Version 7, setting probabilities of error (Pr Err) required
clicking on a command button to display a list of field names and their
current error probabilities. Now, the information is displayed without clicking
and can be edited in place.
- With
Version 7, viewing modal values (Modal Value) required shifting from Prepare
Data to Project Reports and creating a Standard Fields Report (this is still
possible with Data Specifications Report). Now, the information is available
immediately.
- Actions
that can be taken as part of a sub-step appear as command buttons with
relevant labels at the bottom of the form. The Review Standard tab has
two:
Import
Pr Error (import probabilities from another project) and
Apply Pr
Error (apply revised probabilities to standardized data).
